I get migraines, and my experience is that they're somewhat cyclical. Not that I understand the cycle, by any means, just that they come and go.

I currently have one of those miserable sore throats. My daughter was sick last week and the ER doctor said this would be highly contagious to children, but not adults. The doctor was a liar.

Ibuprofin suffices for myself, but he says sodium naproxen is stronger. They're both cheap, so whatevs.

I took ibuprofin like candy with no discernable effect for a long time, so I stopped taking anything for headaches. I'm thinking it's all psychosomatic. Or I have a bunch of tumors.

My right ear's blown out (torn eardrum). I haven't been able to hear anything other than a low rumbling sound from that side since then. I have an appointment with my ENT tomorrow, so I'll let you all know if they expect this to have lasting damage.

Yes, that's it. The most common cause of headaches is cancer.

Perforated eardrums are sucktastic (experience). Seriously I hope things go OK with your ENT. Good luck.

I think you should take the sodium salt of (+)-(S)-2-(6-methoxynaphthalen-2-yl) propanoic acid

So over the past week or so, I have had the sinus infection from hell.

It started when my daughter got a runny nose and a scary-high fever. It looked like RSV to me and I couldn't get her temp below 102.7 even with kids' tylenol, and she wasn't being cooperative with fluids, so we took her in to the ER to get checked (shit always happens on a Friday or Saturday night when you can't get in to the doctor). They also thought she had RSV but it turned out to be a "cousin" of RSV. The physician assured me that this particular incarnation was highly contagious to kids but not to adults, as most adults had already had it. Yes. Right.

Of course, just as she's coming out of it, I'm starting to get the shitty fever feeling. So I had the high fever (the type where your hair hurts, your teeth hurt, the bedsheet hurts against your skin, and so on), the runny nose, the sore throat, all of that. For a day it kind of acted like bronchitis and then it decided that it could really nail me in the sinuses.

One side of my face puffed up like I had the mumps, the lymph nodes under my chin swelled, my right eye started tearing up randomly like I'd just had a stroke, and I felt like someone standing at the headboard of the bed had just taken a sledgehammer to my right eye socket. I was more or less in that condition for three days before I became functional again. My lymph nodes were so swollen that I have residual pain where they displaced tissue. Over the course of the past week, my fever's never gone under 99.

I'm kind of doing a balancing act with Tylenol, Motrin and Excedrin. I expect my liver to explode sooner or later. I'm also drinking copious amounts of Robitussin.

Fuck viruses.

Might I suggest that instead of cough medicine, some medicinal whiskey may be much more effective, plus it will taste better. As long as you're making your liver work out, what's one more on the "to do" list?

Seriously, hope you feel better soon.

Thanks.

My favorite part of the ordeal was when I stumbled into CVS looking for the one type of Robitussin that didn't have an ingredient that would interact with my other crap and do me in. I picked out the two most likely candidates, went to the pharmacist-consult window, and said, "I am on Synthroid and I have adrenal problems. I know that there is only one type of Robitussin I can take. Is either of these right?"

Her response (and yes, her name tag included a Pharm.D) was, "Uh, I dunno...I think that one maybe."

So then I had to pick the one that was closest to straight guaifenesin that I could find and go home to wait and see if I died or not.

I'm better today except for a bad headache and on-and-off hoarseness.

I didn't think I was unreasonable in expecting a pharmacist to know though

You weren't - pharmacists are usually better at that sort of thing than the doctors prescribing the meds.

I can relate to the hoarseness though. Twice today I coughed so hard that I thought I was going to puke. Not the nicest sensation in the world. My normally dulcet tones are taking on the "3-pack-a-day" vibe.
