Male pattern baldness is passed down by the mother. Look at your maternal uncles if you want to know what you will look like at their age.

I have no uncles, my grandma had all daughters (3), and so did her mother (who had 5 of the buggers). But my grandma's husband is 70 something, and he still has a full head of hair.

Even though your maternal grandfather doesn't have the gene, it still leaves you with a 1 in 4 chance that you could have the gene from your maternal grandmother, if we assume 50/50 odds of her carrying it. (I don't know the actual statistics on the bald gene, so it might be less) Do you have any maternal great uncles? Any older male maternal cousins? Also, try asking your maternal grandmother if her father or uncles were bald.

My dad's brother is bald, and my mom's father went semi bald in his later years. I'm sure the same will happen to me eventually. Personally, if it ever got to the point where I thought it was looking too thin, I'd probably just shave my head. Shaved heads don't bug me, but the "I'm going bald... but I'm not quite there yet" look does.

edit: oh yeah, her brother is pretty bald too.

Well Rog, if you do go bald, it will only be the semi-baldness on your mom's side. She definetely would have the gene for it, so you have a 50/50 chance of inheriting it and going semi-bald.

Haha yeah it does actually... in addition to plenty of health problems. And I'm always stressed like crazy, so I'm sure the signs aren't too good. Guess I had better start drinking the hard liquor pronto!

I assure you, you won't go bald because of your father. Male pattern baldness doesn't work that way. You will only go bald if your mother gave you bad genes, not your father. Trust me, I know how this stuff works.

I have curly hair and on top of that, it's fucking RED, so I have to deal with TEH SUCK all over.

But still, I'd rather have crappy, nappy red hair than be going bald.

My mother's father was evidently bald, I've only seen a few pictures of him but he was always wearing hats. He died a few years before I was born. I also have no maternal uncles (my mom has three sisters) so I really don't know what's going to happen to my head. :/

You have a 50/50 chance of going bald, Proto. Possibly more, because people with red hair tend to have fewer hairs on their head then people with other hair colors. You've also got a higher chance of getting skin cancer, so stock up on sunblock.

Who would have thought the genetics unit of my bio course would come in handy? I just took it to fill the science requirement. I never thought I would need to calculate genetic probablities. I guess it wasn't a total waste of time.

My hair is weird. It's straight, but when it grows too long, it starts to curl. It's like I have curly hair, but the curls are all so long that it looks like my hair is completely straight unless it's long.

Also, my hair doesn't grow down when it gets long. It grows up.

I dunno, but when I let my beard grow, there's always a ton of copper hairs in it. I don't know what they're doing there, but I think they're planning on making an attempt to overthrow the dark facial hairs. War is hell.

My assumption is that copper is one of many reddening factors, but everyone has at least a little bit of it in their hair. Zinc too.

Mine is the same way. But I just shaved it all off I guess now I am stupid again
