So, I read Wired (I know its not great but is pretty good sometimes), the Wall Street Journal, SlashDot and Digg to get tech news. What are other good resources?

I'm looking for magazines, since I can't get outside net access at work and want to read it there. I also like magazines that focus on putting tech into common place( like Wired). Not lingo heavy stuff.

Tell me how its going to make the average person's life better.

Depending on what area of tech you're interested in, there are several magazines specific to various platforms, development, etc., but if you're looking for pop-culture 'tech-buzz' news with every second article being about iPods, mp3 downloading, or Japan, Wired is it.

I don't really want pop-culture and I don't want to pay $7.99 for a damn catalouge.

I don't need to know whats trendy, I am interested in knowing whats useful.
