My older computer has '98 on it, and all of a sudden, I can't seem to load any programs without it freezing up and telling me that it's dangerously low on resources. I have no idea how this happened, as it is the family computer. There's plenty of space left on the hard drive. What the hell is going on?

I have 98 and get the illegal error all the time. My computer friend said computers degrade and small problems just keep popping up until you get fed up and buy a new one.

Try running Scandisk and Defrag, and empty your temp directories, too.

This might sound stupid, but do you have any other programs running in the background or things that launch at startup? Have you installed any software on it recently?

FartinMowler, I suggest formatting your computer. When you start getting illegal operations in Win98, the best thing to do is reboot because after one error like that, the system becomes unstable and more will surely follow. If you're contstantly getting them just start fresh with a nice format.

Do you have any gay, third-rate hardware (like an SIS video card) that the computer guy said was really really cool and did everything the expensive stuff does for half the price?

I BET YOU DO.

TWO YEARS! EGAD, MAN, YOUR BOX IS AN ANCIENT ARTIFACT.

Don't be surprised if archaeologists show up at your door.

You should try a newer OS like XP on your computer Fartin. It's a lot more stable than 98.
