Pickleman: Keep Color or Double Size?

Rog and I have been talking about this recently...
Thing is, with my new College schedule, I have LOTS of time to draw Pickleman, but not more time to color it ( cause I need my comp), so that I would have to sacrifice lots of my weekends on coloring it. On top of that, I must confess that I don't really like coloring. At all. It turns Pickleman into more of a chore than a fun project, and I don't want it to be like that.

So instead of having it in full color, we could double the lenght. Of course it would look less spiffy, but it would ease the pain and allow us to make a more developped story with more jokes etc. The cover and clickable secrets would still be in color, but we're afraid that this would be too brutal of a transition.

So since you guys are the ones who read it, we thought we'd ask you and see what you think about this.

How about handing the drawings off on someone else to color?

If you color them in Photoshop, and you give out some pointers, I imagine you could find someone to do a decent job.

Yeah... I don't know anyone who would/could do that right now ( color it).
So until we get around to finding someone, what would you like? Double size or colored? Or maybe just wait until we find someone ( If ever)?
But I don't know what Rog thinks about getting a 3rd person involved. I must say I would be glad to have a skilled colorist working with us :p

If he/she is truly skilled and can dedicate the time to each issue, fine, but otherwise, no. And personally, I don't like the idea of making the comic b&w ever.

How do you color the pieces? If it's in Photoshop, then there's an option right there for someone on these boards to help out.

You could post some B&W versions of pages from the past comics, if available. If not, originals or B&W versions of the upcoming comic (AFTER the finished version is put up, of course). Then have people e-mail their coloring submissions in to be looked over.

Of course, some coloring tips and/or guidelines for what color things should be would be helpful, as well.

I think pox put up a guide on newgrounds showing you how to color in like the pickleman comics. If you can follow that I think anybody can get it.

People seem to treat B&W like it's the plague or something. A colorist is a good idea, however, if that is not an option, I'd gladly take a bigger sample of funny.

If you try a B&W one, you need to do the story and artwork in a Film Noir style.

See, I don't like the idea of switching to b&w when we've already been a full-color comic this whole time. I wouldn't mind doing a completely different comic (on the side of pickleman) in b&w though. But I doubt PoX has that kinda time, and I probably wouldn't either.

See, I understand your reasoning, and I agree. But I think you could try out a black and white comic, under the guise of a gimmick (FILM NOIR), and then see what everyone thought of the black and white. Instead of just saying "Due to time constraints, this comic has no color."















LOL I don't know what film noir even means, but I think it has something to do with black and white. Like Max Payne 2, except that was in color.

Yeah, but at least it's a way to test the waters for one issue. Then if people say they don't mind the black and white, you can resume your regularly scheduled artwork and writing, while remaining colorless.

But still, I agree I'd prefer to keep it in color. You'll lose a lot by not having that, as there is a surprising amount of humor that would be lost without the color there.

why not? Mn'M's did it.
Some old-skool people (rog) know I am alll about the black and white art. In printing.. comics can look good b/w. And art online can look good b/w. But I don't know if pickleman would look good b/w. It's not meant to be b/w. And I think that woud be apparent.
I don't think it would be that hard to find someone to color it.

The media/fast food industry always told me bigger was better with thier double-super-mega sized burgers, and thier big flashy signs bejeweled with colors that I associate with hunger (red and yellow). All my life I associated size with prowess, finess, and other words that end with -ess. My girlfriend eventually tried to convince me otherwise. I wonder why?

I think that you should do them in black and white, and do a colorized one ~Every fourth time.

Just draw one black & white inked PickleMan picture like you normally would. I'll announce it on I-Mockery that if people want to try out for the pickleman colorist thing, they just need to color in that thing as close to the style of our existing comics as possible. Then if we get a submission that looks good, we'll discuss things with that person a bit more to see if they're really up for the task.
