Old Jan 25th, 2007, 08:41 PM        Is MS-DOS still able to read 5.25" floppies on XP?
Out of curiosity for older technology, I bought an old 5.25 Floppy Disk drive (my aunt had given me some games that belonged to her son, including Top Secret Agent and Drakkhen). If I use the MS-DOS executable included on Windows XP, will the computer be able to locate the Floppy drive and diskette, provided I use the proper command line?

Those games will run like pure shit.

And, it's not so much about XP detecting the floppy drive as your BIOS still being able to support it if your computer is really new. Most 5.25" drives used an old IDE connector that new computers do not have.

alternatively there's probably places online where you can download the game or just get an old 286 and convert the floppies to more recent floppies. or just use the 286 to run the games :O

and don't use the XP pseudo-dos thing, use DosBox (not only does it automatically do shit like allocate EMS and setup sound cards, it also can be speed adjusted on the fly )
