Dumbass. Cliff Burton was the bass player who died in the mid-80s (yes, he got crushed under a bus) and was replaced by Jason Newsted, who just left to be replaced by Rob Trujillo. Cliff Burton was the bass player who played a solo track on Metallica's first album and who did most of the arranging on the band's more complicated tunes (Orion, Ride the Lightning, Call of Ktulu). He was one of the best bass players of the thrash metal scene, and this is a factual statement about his playing ability, not my opinion. Feel free to rip on Metallica, because they tend to deserve it more and more these days, but at least get a damn clue before you start acting like you know what you're talking about.

For everyone else out there, Metallica's self-titled "black album" was their SIXTH release, and it came out eight years after their first album, Kill 'Em All. Cliff Burton died around the time their third record, Master of Puppets, was finished.

And no, Anesthesia is a bass solo - note the clever "Bass Solo, take one" at the beginning of the track and the range. No guitar in history has ever played that low, not even one Meshuggah's 8-strings.

Edit number 2: Rob Trujillo has nothing to do with any of Metallica's albums, either, because they recruited him after they finished recording St. Anger (with producer Bob Rock on bass). His first album with Metallica will be the next one they release (if they do, and hopefully it'll be an improvement).
