Tarantino owns a releasing company called Rolling Thunder Films in which he started rereleasing a bunch of exploitation films he could get his hands on and put them out on VHS/DVD for general consumption during his heyday. There are a few more of all kinds of genres, like Switchblade Sisters, Detroit 9000, and Mighty Peking Man. Sadly, the series has been dormant for a while now ever since Tarantino did Jackie Brown then fell off the map.
The company's name came from a very interesting film called 'Rolling Thunder' in which a Vietnam vet gets his hand shoved into a garbage disposal during a home invasion where his family is killed. Replacing his hand with a pike, he goes on a bloody rampage of revenge. Sadly, Tarantino didn't see fit to get the rights to this so he could release it...or the Chiba Street Fighter series as well, which is an indicator that the DVDs he did release didn't fare too well to continue. Still very sad, but since the DVDs were short on extras (and in their OAR), they're a very big sign of how the DVD market has changed.
