Right, so I'll flat out say that I fucking hate i-pods and all they stand for. Everyone that owns one walks around all self important, ignoring anyone else in the vicinity, and they never, NEVER take those stupid little white things out of their ears, even if you directly address them. Please tell me I'm not the only one who wants to kick Apple's ass for creating such a monstrosity.

I could care less about people having I-Pods, I really could. I think it's a waste for the price. For the same price, you could probably get a smaller mp3 player, and still have money to buy yourself some pizza/some McDonalds/a date with your boyfriend Jen.

Yeah, listening to music sucks, and so does creative marketing. Everone needs to be pissed off and rant about popular technology in order to cope with their sexual frustration.

Creative marketing, what?

And I don't think listening to music sucks, I just don't understand why you wouldn't want to phycially own the CD. It's not 'respect the artist' thing, it's just the cover art and liner notes and all that good stuff you miss out on.

And I'm not sexually frustrated...damn it... :/

What I want to say:
"I can see why someone who can't get their avatar to work right would want to shun all technological advances. We have these cool things called electric lights, too, DS. You turn them on, and it's just like having the sun in your own room"

Why I can't say it: I don't how fucking avatars work!

I have an iPod, and I don't use the prepackaged earphones. I use big-ass headphones because when I listen to music, I don't want to hear anything else. Of COURSE I ignore everyone else in the vicinity, I'm listening to my music, and I really like it.

CDs get too bulky and easily damaged when carried around a college campus, and the music has a tendency to skip when you are walking quickly to get to class on time. IPods are quality pieces of technology, and have almost singlehandedly caused the MP3 player boom. So, yeah, iPods are not deserving of your hatred. They may not be the savior of technology (that belongs to any machine running the Tiger OS), but it is a damn good piece of hardware.

I don't know if I'd go as far as saying they're quality hardware. Sure, they have a very nice design, but they're notoriously flaky units. My friend has returned her 4th gen ipod to apple seven times for repair. They're getting better though, I suppose.

Ok, I will also admitt to the fact that I don't know how technology works. And to me it seems like it would be a huge pain in the ass to have to install the i-pod's program on your computer, transfer all your downloaded mp3's, and then have to rip all of your cd's to your computer so you can move them onto your i-pod.

What I think was a brilliant idea was the cd/mp3 player. A cd could hold a shitload of mp3s if that was your thing and it didn't require the installation of a bunch of software and all that. Plus you got to keep your convient cds. And while my old player would skip occasionally, I just got a new one about a year ago, run all over a college campus on a daily basis and it has yet to skip.

And...I can understand if you're walking around and not talking to anyone because you're listening to music. It's those people that try to place orders, listen to a lecture, or talk on their cell phones while still having those little things in their ears that truly crawl under my skin.

But yah...and why *won't* my avatar work? Don't you just plug in the web address? *sigh*...I suck at so many things....

Part of my job as a radio station technician is to do that on a regular basis, & it's a very simple task that can be done very quickly. Also, I don't know about I-Pods but most mp3 players I come into contact with can be plugged into a an XP machine via a USB port with no software installation & act like a removable harddrive.

Yah but, most of my friends have upward of 250 cds and I just can't see how an i-pod would be all that convient to have in that case. For example, my one buddy just bought an i-pod and went through the process of ripping all his cd's (a daunting task as he's one of the 250+ people) and after all that the thing couldn't hold on them.

Besides, who needs to carry around 250 cds at any given time anyway?

On a side note, I have a mini disc walkman, which is great cos the sound quality is amazing etc, but the best thing is the recording quality on it. It has a mic input, and I bought an amazing stereo mic for 8 quid on ebay. I can use it to record sound effects for my work incredibly quickly and easily, and got them on the pc very quickly. But the best thing is, the mic is so sensitive that if you use it and wear headphones at the same time, you can hear stuf that you cant hear normally..I have heard people talking outside quite clearly when I couldnt hear them at all normally.
the best and weirdest thing is just walking around with it on, and you just hear every noise you make much more loudly than normal. Its like listening to a film soundtrack of your own life. Especially entertaining when stoned.

I *know* they've been out for a long time, I'm just saying I think that's where the technology should have stopped. Within those bounds of reason.

As far as mini disc players go, I only know one kid that had one. It seemed like no one really paid much attention to them or the discs themselves were really expensive or something. I dunno...that one kinda went by unnoticed. Around these parts anyway.

Suggesting that the technology should have stopped there is rediculous. You can't stop technology from progressing, and most of the time, improving. The process of installing iTunes and ripping your CDs isn't that bad. Maybe when you FIRST get it and have all of your CDs to rip, but it is worth it, and it is quick.

Example: I am a 250+ CD person. On top of that, I had about 400 MP3s on my computer. When I installed iTunes, it immediately asked me if I wanted to automatically import all music files on the computer. When that was done, I just inserted one CD, hit "Import" and came back about 15 minutes later. The program automatically looked up all the information it needed to properly label the tracks, and filed them neatly into their own sub-folders under the iTunes library folder.

So, I guess what I am trying to say is, that if you can't work an iPod, which is from a company known for easily accesible technology, then you really need to get with the times.

Right right, I probably should get with the times and learn how to work an i-pod and/or an avatar...But as far as the i-pod goes, it just seems stupid to me at this point. Maybe things will go my way and CDs will be the next vinal so I can still play them when I'm 90. :/
