I'm making a mix cd about religion, and I need songs about God, religion, religious conflicts, whatever. I've got a lot in my own collection to pick from, but I could always use some more. It can be pro-God, it can be anti-God, whatever, I kind of want to cover a lot of different angles with this mix. So if anyone has any good songs they can suggest I check out, I'd appreciate it!

A few that I have so far off the top of my head:

"Dear God" by XTC
Any of a shitload of songs by Bad Religion but I'll probably go with "Better Off Dead"
"Heresy" by Nine Inch Nails
"Happy Guy" by NOFX
"Please" by U2
"Holy Wars" by Megadeth
"Thoughts of a Dying Atheist" by Muse

Nemesis- In God We Trust
Immolation- lots, but Fall from a High Place is probably best, but pretty much anything else is really good too.
Black Sabbath- After Forever
Neal Morse makes a lot of good Christian rock, Prince of the Power of the Air is one of my favorites. Most of his Transatlantic work is semi-religious too, but probably would all be too long to put on a CD.
Deicide- Once Upon the Cross, even if it is kind of a joke, the intro is too cool to miss.
But the all time best song about religion is clearly Graveland- Blood of Christians on my Sword

While I love "Better off Dead" I'd have to go with "God Song" on that one instead.

"Judith" by A Perfect Circle might be up your alley. I'm sure you can use a Faith No More track in there as well.

I don't think there's any faith no more songs directly about god.

Get Saviour Machine - Jesus Christ. Excellent song. It's about Jesus. Because he's great.

Eh, I was more referencing the band name than anything, which I think I've seen him do on his mix CDs in the past. Any song will do really :P

Ooh, "Judith" would be a good one. I'll include that. Somehow I'd overlooked it. And there are definitely plenty of Tool songs I can pick from too.

I might include more than one Bad Religion song on the mix, but I'm DEFINITELY including "Better off Dead" because it has the unique perspective of being from god's point of view apologizing for making mistakes.

I KNEW someone was going to include that Joan Osborne song. Thanks for the suggestions, Sadie, but I'm afraid I cannot include that song because it sucks. :P

Ma Toh Vu (How Goodly Are Your Tents)

How goodly are thy tents, O Jacob, and thy tabernacles, O Israel!

I forget how the rest is translated, but the choir does it to a lovely melody that always gets me choked up...

Clawfinger - "Two Sides"

There's nothing a god can give to me that I can't give to myself
I put my beliefs in the things I believe and a god can take care of himself
There's not enough love in the world for me to think about wasting my time
It's not that I don't believe at all but I don't need a heavenly sign
I can achieve the things I need without getting down on my knees
I can respect your religion but I don't want to pay your fees
I don't want to hear you talk about the things you think that I need
so don't help me back on my feet again until you can hear me plead
Just look in the holy book of crooks and tell me what you can find
All the rules and the regulations made to manipulate your mind
Don't pretend that you're blind just open your mind and study historical times
The bigger the loss the bigger the cost the bigger the cross and its crimes
