Review: You know that metal band with the lead singer who has the really weird haircut? That’s Static X. After I heard this album, I never looked at Wisconsin the same way again.

Wisconsin Death Trip had a good variety as far as metal goes. At the same time, though, the overall feel of each song is about 50/50 metal and techno. Sometimes it works, but other times, the repetitive nature of techno music really doesn’t lend itself to metal, or at least not for Static X.

Even so, I’d have to say that this is probably their best album. By the time Machine came out in 2001, the music just didn’t seem to recapture that same feel that it had in WDT, perhaps due to the brief departure of their original guitarist. If nothing else, though, their first album warrants a listen or two.

Overall rating: WholeWholeWholeHalf
(Scored on a 0.5 - 5 pickles rating: 0.5 being the worst and 5 being the best)

I had this many moons ago but gave it away during my silly "only underground metal is tr00" phase. I'd like to pick it up again.

They sounded bad, or was it just a boring show?

After listening to the album again, I do have to agree that it has some good songs. WDT and Stem are pretty damn good. I remember seeing these guys with the snow core tour with System of a Down, Incubus, and Mr. Bungle. Overall a fantastic show (including them). It's too bad that they never really followed up with anything nearly as good as this album.
