Review: Hideaway was a film from 1995 that never really got a lot of exposure. Sure, it was far from the most brilliant movie of the year, but it was an entertaining play on the classic good vs. evil theme by way of psychic links. More importantly, however, is the fact that along with this film came one of my favorite soundtracks of all time.

On this album, you'll find tracks by KMFDM, Oedipussy, Miranda Sex Garden, Sister Machine Gun, Fear Factory and Godflesh to name a few. You'll also find that the last 3 tracks are the main orchestral titles from the movie score by Trevor Jones. To put it simply: the Hideaway soundtrack is a perfect blend of classical and industrial music.

What I always enjoy about soundtracks with a variety of artists, is that they give you a chance to be exposed to some music you wouldn't have heard otherwise. Sure, I heard KMFDM's "Go To Hell" and Fear Factory's "Scumgrief" plenty of times before, but the two tracks from Miranda Sex Garden really surprised me. They're big, sweeping tracks with fantastic vocals and backing orchestral work that you don't want to miss out on.

And then there's the brilliant work of Trevor Jones on the final three tracks. Classical styled music can always be very hit or miss with me, but this is just about as good as it gets. From the slowly expanding chorus to the calmingly quiet acoustic guitars, these tracks can act as both a sedative and a big wake-up call depending on which part you're listening to. Regardless of which parts you like, I think you'll find that these final three tracks are by far the most memorable ones on the entire album.

There are certainly a lot of soundtracks out there that I love, but if I had to rank them, Hideaway would easily make it into the upper echelons of my top ten favorites. Whether you've seen the movie or not, seek out this soundtrack (it won't cost much by now) and I'm sure you'll see exactly why I think so highly of it.

Sounds good. Ever hear the "Lost Highway" soundtrack? It's got Bowie, Smashing Pumpkins, Lou Reed, NIN, Marilyn Manson, Rammstein, et al. and is produced and mixed by Trent Reznor. It also has songs from the original jazz score mixed in. It's one of my favorites. I'll have to check this one out as it sounds like another "great soundtrack to an under-exposed movie".

Honestly, there isn't one genre I like above all others. One day I'll be listening to Bad Religion and Billy Joel, the next day it'll be Silversun Pickups and The Sounds, the next I'll be listening to King Missile and Queensryche. Just depends on what kind of mood I'm in.

Any soundtrack done by TVT is a can't miss. One of my favorite soundtracks of all time was the Mortal Kombat Annihilation soundtrack done by, you guessed it, TVT. It also features KMFDM, Fear Factory, Sister Machine Gun (actually they're one the first movie soundtrack), and many other great artists. This soundtrack also turned me on to Face to Face, who are one of my favorite bands now.
