Title: Golden Axe (2nd Review)
Author:Sega
Rom Player: MAME
Reviewer: Switchblade

Synopsis: Believe it or not, when I was two, I remember seeing this game in Brooklyn, NY. I was with my mother at the time, and I remember looking at the game with the Barbarian, Amazon and the dwarf killing stuff (I heard this game came out in 1989, so it was probably 1989 or 1990 at the time.) Now I couldn’t read the title Golden Axe, but I remember all the stuff in the game, so assume that I’m talking about the same thing.

11 years later......

I was 13. I went to Laser Park for a birthday party for my friend. We all got tokens to play arcade games for a while. And I looked for a game and what do I see? Golden Axe! Well why not play it? I played it and I thought it was pretty good, despite it being over a decade old.

Anyway, on to the review: You get to pick 3 classes of warriors, fighters, whatever you wanna call ‘em. The Barbarian, Amazon, or dwarf. You can use magic, and knock the crap outta dwarfs, goblins, basically anything out of the LOTR. This guy called Death=Adder killed a member of your family and you want vengeance.

Gameplay=6 Not much to say about gameplay. It’s a basic side-scroller, like Double Dragon or something. But it’s still okay.

Graphics=8 Like I said, I played this game a few years ago. If it just came out then, it would have probably been on Game Boy, for obvious reasons. But then again, this was a game made in the 80's, in Sega’s earlier years, so if I was writing this review in 1989, I’d probably give it an 8.

Music=7 To be honest, I don’t remember the music at all, but I do remember it not annoying me.

Originality=6 There have been countless side-scrollers, so originality is in a slump. But it’s still a fun game.

Overall rating=8 So there you have it. If you’re in an arcade and you stumble across this game, play it. It’s worth a few quarters.
