Title: Eightman
Author:Pallas
Rom Player: NeoRAGEx
Reviewer: Dr. Boogie

Synopsis: Fine, but where are the other seven? In Eightman, well, who the hell do you think you control? Eightman!!! It’s not really clear what Eightman is doing here, but it has something to do with robots and mutants, a seemingly insurmountable formula for making an anime-influenced game. If you’ve seen Eightman in a movie, then you pretty much know what to expect, minus the blood. Perhaps the best part about him is that you can tell who Eightman is because he has a big “8” on his chest, which has to do with something that I don’t know about. Basically, the format is a side-scrolling platform game where you punch, kick, and do whatever else you need to do to get rid of those damn robots and mutants. You also get an infinite special spinning kick maneuver and some bombs that do quite a bit of damage when used properly. The regular side-scrolling to stages where Eightman is running really fast to get somewhere, apparently because he can’t afford a cab, and you have to punch guys who practically jump into you to get you to stop. You don’t get much in the way of items, just some life bonuses, extra bombs, and powerups. The powerups will upgrade your normal attack to one of many punches and kicks at once, and finally big waves whenever you punch or kick. The powerups also upgrade your special bombs as well, which changes the way it looks, but basically just gives it more coverage of the screen. That’s it, though. When you die, you don’t lose the powerups, and they appear very often. Sorry to ruin the surprise, but I love you people too much to let you be terribly disappointed. Plus, to capitalize on his eight-fulness, you will occasionally find a big sphere with the number “8” in it. This gives you something called, “8 Power,” which makes you invincible and gives you infinite bombs for a short period of time. You know what, I’m tired of typing “eight,” dammit, on to the enemies! These guys are just generic-looking robots and mutants that won’t win any awrds for originality. The sound effects are there, but that’s about it. Whenever you grab a life, bomb, or powerup item, you get to hear some guy say the item’s title, and I have no clue what he says when you grab a bomb simply because of the heavy warping they did to his voice. The music is acceptable, but not remarkable. It seemed like this game was pushed out before it was done. As if Eightman didn’t have a tough enough time dealing with his unusual name, this game is really going to cost him.
