Synopsis: This was one of my favorite games when I was a kid. It has four screens. They are:The girder screen, the rivet screen, the elevator screen, and the conveyor belt screen.
The goal on the girder, elevator, and conveyor belt screens is to climb to the top of the screen to save your girlfriend. But when you reach the top, Donkey Kong snatches her again. The goal on the rivet screen is to remove eight rivets. This causes the structure to collapse and Donkey Kong falls and hits his head. You are then reunited with your lady but then Kong snatches her again.
The elevator screen is the hardest screen. Here you must get past jumping I-beams. You can also find items that your girlfriend dropped on every screen except the girder screen.
Grab sledgehammers to smash fireballs, barrels, and sandpiles. Sledgehammers are on every screen except the elevator screen.
This game has a timer. If you fail to reach the top of the screens or remove the eight rivets before the timer runs out, you die. Be careful not to fall off structures. This kills you also.
The best home versions of Donkey Kong are the Atari 400/800 and Commodore 64 Donkey Kongs. They have all four screens like the arcade machine. The crappy Colecovision, Atari 7800, and NES Donkey Kongs are missing the conveyor belt screen. The super crappy Atari 2600 Donkey Kong is missing the elevator and conveyor belt screens. That sucks.
I give the arcade version of Donkey Kong a nine.
