Synopsis: Bonanza Bros. It's not a huge surprise if this game doesn't ring a bell. Not exeptionally well known, it stands as one of my favorite games of all time.
The story is simple - you're hired by Bill Gates (well, okay, a mysterious figure, but he has to be rich) to break into and steal from various properties he owns without getting caught by security. If you're sucessful, he'll pay you (dum dum dum dadada... dadada) one MILLION dollars. Let's recap. YOU HAVE TO STEAL FROM HIM, AND HE PAYS YOU. Makes perfect sense, right?
The gameplay is great. The two brothers, Robo (tall red guy) and Mobo (short blue guy) are up against the entire Rent-A-Cop accademy, with the likes of Shield Guy, Dog, Fat Bomb Throwing Dude, and Clumsy Idiot against them. Fortunately, the Bros. have a mighty weapon to assist them - the STUN GUN! Okay... so maybe it's not so mighty, but it causes whoever you shoot it with to sit there and twitch for a good ten seconds. That has to be worth something, right? Of course, that's not the only way you can rain death on unsuspecting security. Not only can you stun them, but you can smash them behind doors, crush them with money presses, and do a variety of other unpleasant things... all comical in their own disturbing way.
Of course, you might not always want to shoot people (you strange, strange person you). You can always hide by pressing up against walls, doors, or discuising yourself as a robot. Don't ask.
Where the game truly shines is the two-player mode. There's nothing quite like smashing your best friend behind a door, causing him to drop all the loot he's stolen... taking it for yourself, and listening to "eh heh heh..." each time. You would be surprised just how competitive things can get when there's a floppy disk lying around waiting to be picked up.
This game created a lot of happy memories for me, and it's worth picking up wherever you can find it. The gameplay can get frentic (especially in 2-player mode), and the graphics aren't half bad for the time it was made. You'll either love or hate the music (the first level tune will remain one of my favorites), and the closest game that I can think of would be Metal Gear Solid. Even so that's a bit of a longshot.
Check this game out however you can - I guarantee you won't be dissapointed.
