Title: Ghostbusters

Synopsis: Back in the day, I was a real live Ghostbusters fan. Still am, to some extent, but hardly like I was. Anywho, I wound up getting my little mitts on a Sega Master System game based on the movie. There wasn't much plot to the game, but you did get to run around catching ghosts while you waited for Gozor, the "bad dude" from the movie, to show up so you could climb his tower and slam the door in his face.

There was a meter at the top of the screen that would fill three times: once colored green, once yellow, and once red. The rate at which it filled depended on how successful a player was at catching the various ghosts.

There were three modes of play in this game: a map screen where you decided where to go next; a driving mode where you got to steer the car, and then a Rampage-esque mode where you actually caught ghosts. And that's pretty much it.

The ghosts were probably the most original feature of the game because there were two varieties you could catch in the field: ones you used your lazers on in buildings and others you sucked up in a vacuum sort of thing. For the latter, the player ran over ghosts on the map screen. Special appearances on the map were the Marshmallow Man, the Gatekeeper, and the Keymaster.

The game's most annoying factor was that to even advance beyond the three-tiered beginning of the game, the player had to raise more money than they had at the beginning of the game, and depending on which password you used, that could be a ton and a half of money, which was hard.

Probably the most challenging part of the game, which sorta ruined it for me, was that when you got to the final boss, you had to zap the wall behind him while he shot at you. I never mastered that part, primarily because the challenge there was so out of pace with the rest of the game. And by "out of pace," I mean it was way more.
