Title: Ghouls 'n Ghosts
Author:Capcom
Rom Player: M.A.M.E.
Reviewer: Shane Skekel

Synopsis: If there is one game that's tough yet fun to play; then this is it. Sure there's the TG-16, Genesis, X68000 computer, and SMS versions; However, this version knocks 'em down in overall greatness. If you want the differences between this version and the ports then I will tell you:
1.) Satan is referred as Loki in the console versions; Loki (Norse mythos) is the enemy of the gods.
2.) Valkyr is St. Michael in the arcade version.
3.) The Slime Armors actually attack you in the Arcade version unlike the SMS version.
4.) The Psycho Cannon actually resembles a meteor unlike the SMS version.

Game Play: The Same as the first game except now you can attack in four directions and have magic via gold armor. Be warned, unlike Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts, this armor is fragile and it shatters in one hit. Now it's time for the weapon fodder:
Grim Reaper clones: They replace the zombies that you slaughtered in the first game, and in level four they can jump to your level in order to attack.
Vulture: They replace the crows in the first game and attack when you get within their territory.
Skull Mortar: These flowers shoot skulls at anyone that dares to intrude on their grounds. They really become a problem when encountered in groups.
Tree Roots: If the Mortar plants weren't enough then these roots will do a good job at pissing you off. Unlike Demon's Crest, you can only hit them when in certain spots.
Shielder (Level one boss): A cycloptic Knight-Dragon that pulls off his own head in order to attack. My advice: Poke his eye out with a long-range, fast-attack weapon.
Land Turtle: Only vulnerable when it is walking.
Red Destroyer: It seems that these bastards aren't willing to give up in eviscerating your ass since they can evade your attacks. However, that doesn't mean that they are indestructible.
Fire Bat: Flame spirits that try to run into you, but they are really easy to snuff out.
Eye-spitting Plants: If the Red Destroyers weren't enough, then these sons of bitches will try to annoy the shit out of you. Very easy to kill on the other hand.
Fenrir (Level Two Boss): A flaming hellhound that leaves a flame trail when he jumps high. My advice:
Make sure you have the Dagger or vorpal disc when you fight this monstrosity.
If you want to know the rest then play the game yourself.

Graphics: A huge improvement over the original when it came to the graphics. The bosses are well-animated, and the backgrounds are also nice.

Music: For an arcade game at this time the music kicks ass, and the sound isn't half bad either.

Originality: Other than the disc, four-directional aiming, and the bosses; there isn't anything new to the storyline.

If you find this at an arcade auction, get it and make sure you have an operator's manual so you can set it to free play. If you find a ROM, get it as well.
