Title: Lufia and the Fortress of Doom
Author:Taito
Rom Player: ZSNES
Reviewer: "Junkman" Jesse Shearer

Synopsis: Now here's a classic RPG if there ever was one for the SNES. You are the descendant of Maxim the Great and, at least presumably, Selan the White. A century after Maxim and Selan save the world from some demons calling themselves the Sinistrals with their companions Guy and Artea, you set out on a quest to do the same, with the title character and two other companions.

What makes this game a classic is that it was as good as any of the Final Fantasy games of it's day. And at the time, that actually meant something. The graphics and music are what you might have found in a Dragon Warrior game had they been produced for the SNES. Pretty damned cool for 1993, to be sure.

As for game play, I still love it a decade later, after having become accustomed to the various FF systems.

What I think I like the most about this game is that it's very well written, and depending upon what the hero is named, it can be very funny as well, if only unintentionally. (For an easy example, use one of the Seven Deadly Words as the hero's name.)

Overall, this is one of the most worthwhile and valuable games in my collection.

Best Cheats: Towards the end of the game, you can win a sword better than the one the plot gives you, and you can even use it in the final battle. I just can't remember which monster it's from.
