Synopsis: Wow, FF6. What a game. Recognized as one of the best RPGs of all time, this game really did have it all. The story goes a little like this:
Two soldiers and a mysterious girl invade a mountain village called Narshe to recover something called an Esper. Whatever, I'm down. Anyway, when they finally reach the esper, the two soldiers dissapear and a bunch of lightning goes off from the esper and crap like that, then the girl's magitech armor blows up, and she awakes in some dudes house. We later learn that she was being controlled by a slave crown, and that all she can remember is her name (Terra), and then the game really starts. So that's the basic setup for the plot. Now that you know the story, let's get on with the review.
Gameplay: This gets a seven because it is easy to move Terra and friends around, but until you can buy some sprint shoes, they move slower than molasses in January.
Graphics: A ten! Probably the best 16-bit pixel art EVER. The characters hang their heads when they are sad, they can shake their heads to day no, they have a startled expression like you would see in anime cartoons, and they can laugh. I didn't see that in FF7. >:( And on the overworld, it uses a kind of mode 7 technique to create a 3D feel. AWESOME.
Music: A nine. I really liked the boss music, and the revamped rock version of FF1's battle theme is awesome. But the best music by far is the Final Fantasy theme, which I find myself listening to every day.
Originality: Final Fantasy 6. SIX! There have been five before this! How unoriginal can you get? At least the "I have amnesia and can't remember shit" plot wasn't as big of a cliche' back then. I give it a five.
Overall: A ten. I have yet to complete this game, but it is AWESOME so far. And Kefka is probably the evilist AND the gayest Final Fantasy villan of all time! Two records in the bag!
In short, BUY THIS GAME. Even if you don't have a Super Nintendo, BUY IT AND GET ONE LATER. Or you could download a rom. Your choice :)
