Title: Final Fantasy Legend 3
Author:Squaresoft
Rom Player: no$gmb
Reviewer: Naghi
Synopsis: Although bearing the Final Fantasy name this is actually the third Romancing Saga title to apear on the Gameboy. A drastic departure from the first two titles this game abandons the 'gain stats in battle' for the by now familiar 'gain exp to increase your level.'
The plot is actually quite involving, especially for a handheld RPG. It involves a world where monsters roam the land, at least the land that still remains. A creature appears some time in the past has caused the world to slowly but surely be consumed by the oceans. A group of children are sent back in time from the ravaged world of the future and train in the hopes of saving their world. All the while a mysterious island floats in the sky.
For fans of RPG's this game was and is a welcome change to the somewhat skimpy, and youth oriented, selection for the handheld market. What's interesting is I believe this was Square's first venture into the idea of time travel in their titles.
Unlike in the first two games in this one the party is chosen automaticaly, all you get to do is change their names. Although you can 'change' characters by using meat and mechanical bits, but I find it to be more trouble than it's worth.
The music is a huge improvement over the first two games, although it still uses some of the same music a lot of it is new. The graphics are surprisingly enough quite detailed, and the gameplay in the battles is quite reminiscent of FFMysticQuest (without the suckiness)
All in all I really like this game and feel that any fan of old-school square games should give this one a go if they haven't already. But, avoid the first one if at all possible.
