Synopsis: Bionic Commando was an arcade game before it was on the NES. The NES version however was completely different then the arcade version. Shortly after you slap this baby in (or load the rom) you become immersed in the greatness of this game. The prelude (a must for truely legendary games) is nicely done, and preframes what you will be doing in the game. The story revolves around a no name private who is trying to rescue the super soldier "super joe" who was captured by a warmonger who is trying to revive a dead leader (SPOILER) who just so happens to look just like hitler. (END SPOILER).
Game play is simple - you can run and shoot and use the claw arm to climb / swing to new places. The Claw arm is the tool that really makes this game fun to use as you can not only shoot your gun but can swing into enemies to knock them into pits or spikes or pits with spikes in them. It can be frustrating though as certain enemies can knock your claw off what it is attached to - sending you often times to your death.
BC also features some of the innovations that at that time were not mainstream. You can level up by collecting bullets that form after you kill a bad guy. You also get several different weapons and equipment that have different abilities.
The Graphics are awesome. As I recall, this game was one of the early NES games and it really took advantage of all that was known and available at the time. There are two scenes at the end of this game that are just incredible - I still remember nearly wetting my pants at one of them. The Music is also very good, well, I mean as good as MIDI gets.
Overall if you call yourself a gamer - and you haven't played this game yet - go now and play; it is simply one of the best.
