Title: Super Metroid (5th Review)
Author:Nintendo
Rom Player: ZSNES
Reviewer: Captain B

Synopsis: "The last metroid is in captivity. The Galaxy is at peace." The irony of those words is something that will stick with you when you play Super Metroid. Metroid games have all had a story, but this one hit a high note: Starting where Metroid 2 left off, Samus took a small newborn metroid to a lab on Ceres space station for scientific research. She didn't think the space pirates would be around to further ruin her life, but they were, and an old "friend" of hers was killing innocents and stealing the infant metroid.
The game was all the more amazing to those who had played and beaten the original Metroid before. (OMG, IT'S RIDLEY!!!) Parallax scrolling played a huge part in the game, often making caverns feel HUGE.(especially in Brinstar and Norfair.)What happens to the hatchling isn't something I'll reveal, but it will unleash a powerful emotional connection between the Player and Samus.(especially considering the weapon you are given.) This was also the first time the player got to see what these dreaded Space Pirates really looked like. The Graphics are one of Super Metroid's strongest attributes. When a monster roars, you can see drool drop from their mouths and spatter on the floor. And how about watching Crocomire's flesh dissolve in a pit of acid? That was awesome.
The World has gotten larger since the original Metroid (and if you've beaten the recent GBA remake, Metroid: zero mission, you'll know why): Lower Maridia's haunting tune and atmosphere will make you shudder, while the top half of Maridia will fill you with fear. West Brinstar has an awesome song, but it will leave you feeling very lonely. Then there's the unforgettable "March of Hell", as I like to call it, of Lower Norfair. IMO, Ridley's roar is much cooler in Super Metroid than it is in Metroid: Fusion and and Metroid: Zero mission.

Best Cheats: The usual weapons don't do it for you? No prob. switch on the Charge beam and one other beam. Now, back in regular gameplay, highlight the power bombs. With the power bombs highlighted, Charge up your beam and see what happens. Feel free to experiment with the other 3 beams.
