Synopsis: Aaah, The Punisher, one of the best games Capcom has ever made. I still remember those days when my best friend and I played this game for hours on my trusty old 16-bit SEGA Megadrive.
Punisher is definitely one of those games that has been brutally underrated. Well, life isn’t fair…
The basic plot of The Punisher is the same as it has been always. Thugs kill Frank Castle’s family during a nice picnic in Central Park. Somehow Frank, a captain of USMC, survives and declares a war to the dirt bags of New York who are lead by Kingpin. The player can choose either the Punisher, or Nick Fury who is an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. Only difference between these two is special moves.
The Punisher is a side scrolling action game and it contains a lot of pick-up able weapons such as a bar chair, flower vase, trash can and many more. Of course the game also contains the usual capcom weapons such as the lead pipe, machine gun, katana, flamethrower, throwing star and so on…
The Punisher is a great game, but it gets pretty boring if you’re playing alone. The true fun begins when you are playing with your friend and the game WILL give you moments of joy for sure (Just avoid these “Hey I saw that katana first! Take that bastard!” kind of fights, they will kill!).
The controls for the game are very simple: A to attack, B to jump and C to make a special move. You can also make combo moves, for example if you jump and press C, your character will toss a grenade that deals heavy damage to everyone on the screen.
Graphics of the game are nice, if you consider that the game was released in 1994, you will be surprised how good they are. Sound effects are also awesome. Dirt bags scream when they die and every time you hit/shoot your enemy you can see these Marvel style effects such as “Chock!”, “Blam!” etc.
I’d also like to point out that Punisher has THE BEST MUSIC of any other Genesis game.
Only negative thing is that to see the full ending you must finish the game on the hardest game mode but, after all, it’s worth it! ;)
Best Cheats: If you can't beat this game without cheats I suggest you to forget this game and try "Barbie super model" instead.
