Title: Castlevania II: Simon's Quest
Author:Konami
Rom Player: Nesticle
Reviewer: SFX mew

Synopsis: A great reminder of what Konami used to be capable of. You take the role of Simon Belmont, Vampire Hunter. While he had successfully defeated Dracula in the previous installment with the infamous Vampire Killer whip, he had unwittingly been cursed by the vampire lord. A few years later, the curse manifests itself and Simon only has a few days remaining to live. He ventures out into the countryside to collect the remnants of Dracula's body with the intention of reviving him and putting an end to his curse forever. Along the way you meet idiot townsfolk with nonsensical dialogue, which is easily shrugged off by the manual as some sort of deliberate deception. Oddly enough, everything a townsperson says can actually make sense on some level. Like when this old lady asks you to live with her forever, that's actually the GAME looking at you and realizing you're a stud in real life. Wow! To add to the fun, there are 13 mysterious clues that are supposed to solve Dracula's 'riddle'. Some of these are actually important, but most of them run along the lines of: STUFF IS SPOOKY BEWARE OF VRAD DLACURA. My personal favorite is the 'A FLAME IS FLICKERING INSIDE THE RING OF FIRE' one. It's a metaphor for life. Probably. You start the game with a crappy whip and nothing else. In order to get better equipment, you must venture outside of town and rip the hearts out of skeletons, werewolves, and zombies. There are also day and night cycles; during the night all the enemies are twice as strong, but the heart you rip out is worth twice as much. Also, the amount of days that pass determine which of the 3 endings you'll see. The music... kicks ass. The major failing this game has is that it is way too easy. There are people out there who haven't beaten Death from Castlevania 1 and they've been playing it since 1985. In conclusion, go play it right now. It's about 500 times better than anything that's been released in the last 10 years.

Best Cheats: Cheating at this game would be heresy. Shame on you!
