Title: Totally Rad
Author:Jaleco
Rom Player: Nesticle
Reviewer: SFX mew
Synopsis: Though this game missed the critical '89 deadline for games with the word 'rad' in it, it still reached super-fame without the aid of a commercial expounding the extent of it's radicalness. The plot is simple: You're an afro-headed youth who wants to learn magic from a freakish midgetman. While you're running around one day, fat people in flying eggs suddenly shoot lasers at you. After you manage to defeat a horde of random-but-generic nintendo enemies, your girlfriend is kidnapped, yadda yadda yadda. However, like all people in the nintendo universe who have a girlfriend kidnapped, you alone are the only person powerful enough to do anything about it. How? By doing a funky dance you can use mysterious elemental magic! Also for fun you can change your shape into various useless helper forms to aid you on your quest. The fishman, who throws ninja stars and can kinda swim - the eagleperson, who throws little bent sticks and can kinda fly - and the lionman, who jumps a little higher than the standard afro-form but doesn't have a projectile so he's worthless. With these RAD TO THE MAX superabilities you should be able to kill anything you would think, but it's not so easy. In a game where you gained levels or something, the 'reusing bosses as regular enemies later' might have made sense, but as it is, it's just really frustrating. Then theres the ever-popular gauntlet of previous bosses you have to pass in the end before the biggest, most annoying, triplestage, homing bullet firing ho bag. Sometimes, the only thing that keeps you going through this game is the interstage cut scenes where you are treated to hilarious 80's-esque lingo passed between our hero, captain afro, and the mutated dwarf thing that's supposed to be helping him. It may be worth a chuckle to jaded video game veterans, or perhaps even entertaining to people who enjoy listening to Jaleco's seldom crappy musical arrangements.
Best Cheats: Avoid enemy attacks.
