Synopsis: Do you like playing games that are boring, have one hit deaths, bad music, and are extremely repetitive? If you do, by all means, play P.O.W for NES. What a pile of crap this game is. I had some good memories of it when I was younger, but after playing it again now, I wonder what was I on when I played it. Lets break it down by category.
Graphics: Actually, this is the best part of the game. Your guy has descent detail and so do the enemies. The backgrounds are also fairly good. Granted, the are nothing special, but they are more than suffice.
Sound: This thing sounds awful. There is one sound effect for everything in the game from a gun shot to a guy getting punched. The music is even worse. It is very annoying and repetitive. Most NES games have repetitive music, but at least it is catchy. That does not happen here.
Gameplay: You can do four different moves in this game: punch, kick, jump kick and if you are very lucky an elbow punch. For a game that came out years after Double Dragon, it is pretty sad when you can only do half as many moves. There is a whole three weapons on the game, and they are ultra rare to get. You can get power ups in the game that increase your offense and defense, but they are useless since you still get killed by one hit from 50% of enemies. You fight the same enemies throughout the whole game, which needless to say sucks. The main guys cheat like mother fuckers. There is one main guy, who has a spread gun and throws magically heat seeking grenades. Both the bullets and the grenades kill you in one hit. Sounds like fun, huh. I have played beat em ups on Atari 2600 games that have better gameplay than this.
Originality: Nothing in this game is original. The concept is a mix between Rambo and Double Dragon, which is not the problem. If this was half as good as Double Dragon I would be happy, but it lacks moves, weapons, and fun.
Overall, this game is terrible. I have had more fun watching shit go down a toilet than playing this game. Everything is dull, boring, and frustrating. It's sad for a good company like SNK to have such a bad mark on their record like this. Two words to sum up this game: NO FUN!
