Title: Karate Champ
Author:Data East
Rom Player: Nesticle
Reviewer: Mr. Mockery

Synopsis: 1 on 1 classic fighting games don't get much better than this. Along with Kung-Fu, this was one of my favorite martial arts NES games of all time. You can either play against the computer or against a friend. Playing against the computer can get pretty old I suppose once you get good at the game. But, playing against a friend is always going to cause a lot of "shit talking", I guarantee it.

The control isn't too hard to get used to... it's all just a bunch of various punches & kicks. You can even do some huge inhuman jumps just like in some of the old martial arts flicks. The graphics are ok I suppose. The scenery changes as the game progresses, but the moves themselves never change. There are however little bonus rounds in between matches where stuff gets thrown at you that you have to break, or else it knocks you unconscious. Music-wise, this game has one of my favorite video game tuns in it as well, so that's a big plus. The sound effects are classic to with typical "hep! hep!" sounds when you punch and "thawk!" when you get hit. Gotta love it...

And look who the referee is! He sorta looks like Wolfman Jack, doesn't he!? "Arrrroooooooooooo!". I think he needs to take a piss or something cuz he's constantly doing a little "I need to take a piss badly" dance. And how the hell did he get on top of that tree in the 4th round? With all that in mind, how can you possibly go wrong with this game?
