Title: Spy vs. Spy (2nd Review)
Author:Nothing Entered
Rom Player: Nothing Entered

Synopsis: We have all picked up a copy of Mad Magazine at least once in our lives. And let's face it: there were two rewarding things about that magazine. 1) The folding picture on the back cover that we could never get quite right, and we never really understood. 2) The Spy vs. Spy comic, in which two men closely resembling anteaters, one in a black suit and one in a white suit, try to kill each other.
Well, Nintendo brought us a game to reflect on those zany, violent adventures! The graphics were shit, the same music played over and over again--but DAMN, it was fun to put a bomb in a dresser drawer and watch your opponent unwittingly open it up, then KABOOM!!
Basically, the idea behind the game was fun. In each setting (usually a maze of rooms within an apartment or office building), you had to get the special item in your possession before time runs out. So, you find the item, now what do you do to keep your opponent from punching you in the face and taking it? You hide it in a drawer or behind a painting or in a plant, and you booby-trap it! There were some really cool things--a spring, bombs, etc. that killed your opponent any time he opened a drawer or picked up a vase. Best part--you could fake each other out by rigging every damn drawer in the building!
While this could be fun for a little while, it got very redundant. Only two players, and the same thing over and over again. It was fun while you could stomach the crappy graphics and annoying music, but most NES players put it down after fifteen minutes to play Super Mario Brothers or Metal Gear. Alas, the game's few merits were fleeting.
Overall, a fun game to try, but not to own.
