Title: Super Mario Land
Author:Nintendo
Rom Player: gb98

Synopsis: Back in 1989, Mario made his first Gameboy debut in Super Mario Land. This is the game that more or less established the platform genre on the Gameboy after the success of Super Mario Bros. on the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES). For many people, this may be one of the first games they have played on the Gameboy and it certainly had me hooked.

Story/Originality:4
The evil alien Tatanga has kidnapped Princess Daisy of Sarasaland, and it’s your job as Mario to defeat him! …Yes, that’s it. That’s all the storyline there is; no explanation is given as to why Tatanga wants Daisy. I guess he just does it for the heck of it. And when you think about it, why does Mario rescue all these princesses? Aren’t you just supposed to marry the one you rescue first? Heck, this is his third one (Pauline, Peach, Daisy)! Oh well; you have to remember, this was released over ten years ago. Many games didn’t even have this much of a storyline! In that respect, SML’s plot is perfectly average, and normal.

Game Play:10
There's just something about the feel of this game . . . guiding tiny Mario through those tiny, levels is really fun. I'm not sure what it is exactly that makes it all fun, it just is.

Graphics:10
Everything's small, but for some reason, I think that looks really cool. Everything looks very sub-par in comparison to an NES game, and all the other Game Boy launch titles had better graphics. Also, I noticed an error in Mario's outfit. His overalls have a light gray and dark gray color. I'm guessing that light is red and dark is blue. His overalls are the same color as his cap. This either means that his overalls are red or his cap is blue.

Sound/Music:10
I personally love the Mario music; it’s perfectly suited to games of this style. I’ve got that music stuck in my head for over two months now, and it doesn’t show any sign of stopping. Some will say that it’s just beeps and bloops, but I think that it sounds great for the Game Boy, back in ’88. However, the sound effects don’t fare as well: they are just beeps and bloops.

Overall:10+
Ever after all the GB Advance & GB Color games that have been released in the past months, and years, this game remains as my favorite Game Boy game EVER!!!

Hit him with fire balls or run below him and jump on the switch on the other side.

Hint: Level 3: Secret tunnel:
Play on level 3, go to the first lion, and kill it. Get the points and smash the first block in front of the lion. Jump again where you smashed the block to find an object on top of it. Jump on it, and it will lead you to a secret tunnel. Hint:

Level 3: Ride up:
When starting on level 3, walk back to the left until you are almost under the wall. Jump up at the side of the wall and a box should appear. Jump on that box and ride up.
