Synopsis: 33 levels of block-bustin' excitement! Arkanoid is a classic in the world of video games. An offspring of the famous "Breakout", just about everyone has played this game, if you haven't then let me welcome you from out under that rock you've been under.
You're in charge of the Vaus spacecraft and you're trapped in space. You're armed with an energy ball weapon of some sort that you can use to bust through the blocks trapping you. You use the Vaus craft itself (it's the bar at the bottom of the screen) to launch the ball and as it comes back, to reflect it back towards the blocks.
The basics of the game are thus: eliminate all the blocks from a level without letting the ball slip past your ship. Along the way the blocks can release some power-ups for your ship:
S: Slows down the speed of the ball.
C: Allows you to catch the ball, reposition yourself and shoot.
E: Expands the Vaus craft's width.
D: Disrupts the ball, making it split into 3 separate balls.
L: Equips the ship with a laser with which to shoot out block.
B: Breaks through a side wall, allowing you to "warp" to the next level.
P: Extra Life.
During the game there is really no music to speak of, only the "blink...blink" of the ball bouncing.
This game is addicting. Once you start playing you can't stop. It's not a complicated game and the biggest part is hand-eye coordination, but for some reason it's the crack cocaine of video games.
