Title: Tennis
Author:Nintendo
Rom Player: NESticle
Reviewer: Maestro
Synopsis: There's something to be said for someone who goes to the store to buy a video game and after looking over all the choices decides on Nintendo Tennis. That being said, this isn't such a terrible sports game for being made in 1983.
Gameplay: The gameplay is about what you'd expect from a tennis game: Slow and monotonous at worst, somewhat clunky at best. You have two options when returning the ball: a lob (b button) or a harder shot (a button). My experience seems to be that 7 times out of 10 a lob will land out of bounds, and I know it's out of bounds because a little white-clad Mario yells "OUT!" Unsettling to say the least.
Graphics: This game was made in 1983 so don't expect too much. The graphics aren't too bad for its time but when you're used to 3-d rendering and x millions of polygons it's a bit crude.
Music: The only music in this game is the theme music which sounds somewhat familiar, and the short jingle they play when someone wins a match. Most of the time you'll only hear the "bloop" of the ball hitting the racket.
Originality: It's a straightforward tennis game so it doesn't have a lot of room to be original. Pretty much status quo.
Overall rating: It took some balls to make a tennis game for the NES and try to get people to buy it instead of getting off their fat asses to actually play the real thing, so kudos for that. And Mario makes yet another cameo as the referee. Not a great game but about as solid as a tennis game comes.
