Title: Double Dragon
Author:Tradewest
Rom Player: NESticle
Reviewer: Michael Zacconi

Synopsis: If you grew up in my generation you'll remember when that side-scrolling beat 'em up game Double Dragon was a dominant force at the arcades. Taking the role of Spike and Hammer, you and a friend pounded skulls from the city slums to a temple in the mountains. Laying the smackdown to countless thugs with the goal of rescuing your lady friend from the clutches of that Machinegun guy and his gang.
And what a dream come true it was when I had heard it was making its way to the NES home console. Well not exactly. As I found out after buying the game that it had no 2 player simultaneous mode?!? What no two players at the same time?? But they still called this piece of crap Double Dragon! How about "Single Dragon" instead to avoid false advertisement? The whole point was to team up together to hand out the beatings. Back then everybody had a NES, this would satisfy two little bastards at once rather than have someone wait to play.
Oh and get this one: you didn't start the game with an assortment of attacks. No, you had to earn them during the game. In other words you start with a punch and a kick and somehow learn or remember other moves to do along the way. "Hey wait a minute, let me see here, if I jump and kick at the same time, hmmm".
Everybody was a bizarre color for some reason. The guy you play was orange. You fought a bunch of pink-haired bitches and some guys with purple hair that looked like they just got out of bed. I know the bright colors may look nice to kids but this game was all about whooping ass.
I guess as NES standards went the graphics were decent and they could only do so much for a home version, but having a 2 player mode would have made some sense. If they didn't have the capabilities, then why did part two have it included? It just wasn’t a Double Dragon game anymore. The transition eliminated all that was fun about the arcade version.
