Title: Todd's Adventures in Slime World
Author:Epyx, Licensed to Atari Corp. , 1990
Rom Player: Handy
Reviewer: Brandex

Synopsis: # of players: 1-8

Synopsis: This is the first 8 player game ever made, though I've never had the chance to play a multiplayer game with someone. You play Todd, who has to walk, jump, climb and fly through Slime World in six different scenarios.

Gameplay: 8/10 - This game is enormous. Some caverns fill up several screens at once, and it takes hours to complete each scenario. You will definitely want an AC adapter or battery pack to finish the game. The game also includes a helpful guide to teach you about the different kinds of slime and other features. Green slime slowly covers Todd until he either washes it off in pools of water, uses a slime shield or dies (he pops!). Red slime kills Todd instantly. In all but the arcade scenario, Todd regenerates at the restart point (a bunch of white sparkles). Other kinds of slime allow Todd to bounce, while some are too slippery for Todd to climb. Todd starts out with a water pistol and a computer map, but tons of other items can be found. For example, a slime shield can protect Todd from the effects of slime, while a megabomb destroys every creature in the room. Just make sure that Todd isn't in the room when it explodes! For points, Todd must collect valuable slime gems. Blue slime gems are worth some points and clean Todd up a little, while red slime gems are worth tons of points and automatically start a slime shield. Just don't shoot the red slime gem, or it explodes into pieces of red slime that can kill you. Tons of monsters inhabit Slime World. Some are indestructible, like the giant maggot, while others explode into pieces of green or red slime. Some scenarios also require Todd to collect special items. For example, in scenario four Todd must pick up mushrooms in order to keep Slime World from disintegrating before he escapes. Basically, people who like to play games that require a lot of exploration will love this one.

Multiplayer games allow you to play cooperatively with others or play in a "deathmatch" situation where you can pick up slime guns to attack other people.

Graphics: 8/10 - The graphics are pretty good for the Lynx. All the slime looks gooey and disgusting and most of the monsters look horrifying. Imagine getting covered with a horde of maggots!

Sound/Music: 6/10 - The music is so-so. You certainly won't remember any of the tunes. The sound effects, however, can be fun since some of the monsters make a disgusting popping noise when they explode.

Originality: 9/10 - This game is pretty original. I've never encountered a game where you wander through a realm made of slime.

Overall: 8/10 - This is one of the great titles for the Lynx. It takes hours to complete each level and it also takes brains to solve some of the puzzles in the game. The only drawback, however, is that there is no incentive for playing a level that you have already beaten. The game's appeal rests mostly on the amount of places you get to explore.
