Synopsis: Sonic 2 was a great improvement over Sonic 1. It was enhanced in ways that would make Mario pull out a gun and shoot the living daylights out of Sonic. Sonic 2 featured the same plot as Sonic 1: Dr. Robotnik wants to use the Chaos Emeralds to take over the world. Sonic must stop him *yawn*. But plot didn't matter, because gameplay was this game was all about. New to Sonic 2 was the debut of Tails. Tails was a young 2-tailed fox that can be used to fly around. Sonic also got a new move to use: the Spin Dash, which let him speed up with ease (He was also nearly invincible doing this). The animation of Sonic improved from Sonic 1, making him more detailed and seemingly 3D. The sound seemed more serious than happy-go-lucky. Arguably the best feature of Sonic 2 was the 2-Player mode. Having 1 player control Sonic and the other control Tails in competition or "Co-Op" bought a feeling of joy to young people. Also, if you collected all 7 Chaos Emeralds (You get 'em in a 3D pipe special stage) let you turn into Super Sonic! Super Sonic glowed yellow and could do all sorts of crazy crap like walk on spikes and go even faster! Overall, Sonic 2 is Sonic 1 on crack taking steroids while avoiding ninjas with flamethrowers! Sonic had firmly established his name in video game history, thanks to Sonic 2.
Gameplay-10: Thanks to the Spin Dash and Tails, Sonic 2 felt like a whole new experience.
Graphics-10: Sonic is more detailed than in Sonic 1, and the backgrounds look more alive.
Music-10: The serious tone in the music fit Sonic's fast pace and hard boss battles.
Originality-10: Due to Sonic 2's improvements, it seemed that Sonic was not influenced at all by Mario.
Overall Rating-10: Grab some friends, order a pizza, and get the drinks. Sonic 2 is a great multiplayer as well as single player experience you owe yourself to play.
