Synopsis: Hide the stash!!! NARC was a by-product of America's war on drugs. Together with D.A.R.E., Nancy Reagan, and "Winners Don't Use Drugs" popping up all over arcade screens, NARC was anti-drug propaganda in the most militant sense.
You play as one of two narcotics officers, Max Force or Hit Man. Geared up with vests, motorcycle helmets, automatic weapons, and rocket launchers, you took to the streets to blast away every drug-dealing junkie you can find. Forget about carrying a search warrant or reciting, "You have the right to remain silent blah blah...." This is war!
At the beginning of each level, you are given a surveillance video shot of your felon. After that, all hell breaks loose as you shoot, blow up, or run over the bad guys, without any concern over police brutality. You can also frisk and arrest the criminal scum. Every time a villain was wasted, they dropped ammo, rockets, drugs or money. Sadly, you can't use the drugs or money; they go to your scoreboard instead. The baddies are a varied sort, but usually limited to one type per stage. You have the bald coke dealer, the heroin junkie glam rocker, the head-butting zombie crackhead, the Rambo-type commando who looks after the crops (Sgt. Skyhigh- gotta love the name), suit wearing gangsters, and the drug kingpin, Mr. Big.
Although NARC was meant to keep kids off drugs, it was a hell of a violent and gory game. Every time you used the trusty rocket launcher, body parts flew everywhere, junkies threw syringes at your law-enforcer, and the streets were bathed in blood as you made the city safe for everyone.
Overall, NARC is a bloody, gory good time. Whether you're a stoner or not, you'll love blasting away the scumbags, running them over with a Porsche, or making their limbs fly with the rocket launcher. I guess the programmers where on some good crack when they decided to make this arcade classic.
