Title: Mutant League Football

Synopsis: This has to be one of the best football games ever made. The novelty of this one was that you played as monsters, skeletons, robots, and superhumans. The player's names were often parodies of actual NFL players. Such as Bones Jackson or Reggie Fright. This would later be changed for that horrid abomination of a cartoon show that came along, but that's another story. For all you pigskin purists, this game played much like Joe Montana Football, and you could play a whole season or exhibition game.
Gameplay: Plays for the most part were pretty much standard football stuff. However some of the audibles were Kill the ref, Kill the Quarterback, bribe the ref, or turn the football into a bomb. You could also have a running back or receiver throw dynamite at the defense. Or if you hit a guy enough times or tackled him too hard you'll kill him and all his body parts went flying. Or players could fall to their demise in acid or be blown up by land mines. All made for a few laughs at the expense of your opponent. The game was more humorous than violent but nonetheless I'm sure it pissed off Ol' Senator Joe Lieberman plenty. Passing was done by choosing one of three eligible receivers, showing them in a box with the corresponding control pad button listed. When that receiver was chosen and he got the ball the view shifted to him and you controlled it from there. Returns and rushing were the same as most games.
Sound: The music was a generic rock song all throughout most of the options screens and the title screen. A slamming sound when you chose a play and grunting, whining, or grunting for voices rather than spoken words rounded out the rest of the ear goodies.
Graphics: The graphics were pretty decent for the technology available at the time. They resembled many of the action games out there.
All in all I'd say this was an excellent game and I'm sure you could find a decent copy at Funcoland or download it off an emulation site.
