Synopsis: Video games based on popular movies are rarely any good at all, but this is a nice exception.
If you haven't seen the movie you're weird and I don't like you. But the story is about a boy who is left home alone in a mix-up while his family is in Paris for christmas. These 2 dumbass burglars try to rob his house and the kid catches onto the plan so before they come to rob the place, the kid sets traps to foil their plan. The game has the same story, except you defend your neighbor's houses and not just your own. Now that you're all caught up on the story, I'll talk about the game.
Every time the burglars enter a house there's a "loot meter" you can see whether you're inside or outside. If you're in the same house as the burglars you can see a "pain meter" that goes up as you hurt them. Once it reaches the end, you've saved that house. The way you foil the burglars' plans is pretty simple. You make weapons using items you find outside and inside the houses. There's 3 parts for every weapon and you can make a lot of different ones using different combos. There's the platform, the operator, and ammo. You'll have something like a scooper for a platform, rubber bands for the operator and a rubber ball for ammo. All that combined in your inventory (pause menu) makes you a super ball launcher. Unfortunately, like all the other weapons, when you shoot a burglar with it, it just makes a funny little animation that involves the ammo. For example, if you shoot someone with a glue weapon they get covered in it and look as if they're covered in concrete. In addition to making weapons, you can set traps in the houses if you go to them before the burglars do. You can put down stuff like marbles and ice and they do decent damage to the burglars when they slip on them. When you're chasing after the burglars with your weapons, they can grab you and put you on a coat hook until you free yourself by tapping a button or two. There's also a built-in trap for every house that can hurt you and the burglars. It's very simple and is really repetitive.
Outside the houses, you can drive around on your sled and knock over snowmen to get ammo. The outside is a 2-block area with like 6 houses and bushes that act as barriers to keep you in the neighborhood. The burglars drive a big blue van and it's the only vehicle, so you won't have trouble finding them. You can follow them to a house they're about to rob and get inside before they do to set traps. First time players might have trouble getting inside the houses because there's no explanation. You've just got to go to the door and keep running into it till the message asking if you want to enter comes up.
There's a timer that's always on and when it runs out the cops arrive, ending the game.
Game Play: 7 Good game to beat once in a while...Not much more than that though.
Graphics: 6 Very simple graphics. The weapon animations are pretty cool at first but there aren't that many so they get repetitive.
Sound: 5 Nothing special. Music is annoying after a while.
Originality: 10 Very original game. Doesn't mean it's the best game around, but it is original.
Overall: 7 I'm a little biased since it's another of my favorites from when I was a kid, but if you play it only once in a while, it's a pretty good game.
Best Cheats: I don't know any, and you won't need any anyway.
