Title: Popeye
Author:Nintendo
Rom Player: NESticle
Reviewer: Randy Johnson

Synopsis: In 1989 on my eighteenth birthday, I bought Popeye for the NES. It is incredibly like the arcade version.
On Popeye's first screen, you catch twenty-four hearts that Olive Oil throws at you. They fall down the screen until they reach the bottom. If they stay in the lake at the bottom too long, they'll crack and you'll lose a life.
On screen #2, Olive throws sixteen music notes at you. Like the first screen, if the music notes reach the lake and stay there too long, they'll crack.
On screen #3, Olive throws the letters H-E-L-P at you. She throws them six times. Once again, they'll crack if they reach the bottom and stay there too long. On this screen, you must also dodge the Seahag's vulture.
The Seahag and Brutus throw bottles at you. Grab your spinach and punch out Brutus. There's also a barrel at the top of screen #1. Knock it on Brutus's head and render him harmless for several seconds.
Be careful. If Brutus is on the platform below you, he can jump up and hit you. If he's on the platform above you, he can reach down and hit you or jump down to the platform and kill you.
There are a few things that are different from the arcade Popeye. On the NES version, you get one can of spinach per life. On the arcade, you get only one can per screen. Also, on screen one, the broken ladder can be climbed up or down. On screen two, only part of the arcade's music is played and Wimpy is missing.
I've also written a review on the Atari 2600 Popeye by Parker Bros. Unfortunately, it wasn't favorable.
The NES Popeye is fun. I give it a nine.
