Title: Crystalis
Author:SNK
Rom Player: Nesticle
Reviewer: Dr. Boogie
Synopsis: A real gem from SNK. According to the story, a huge war breaks out on October 1, 1997 that wipes out civilization, as we know it. The Earth’s axis shifted, thus mutating the animals. The remaining people built a huge floating tower to “oppress evil forever.” Bad idea (it is explained as the plot unfolds). One hundred years later, the mutated creatures dominate the Earth, and people work together to rebuild civilization, but an evil force threatens to destroy all that. There is only one hope: you. You play a character that awakens from some sort of cryogenic sleep to save the world from this evil. The world that you have to save, fortunately, is very colorful and detailed, with environments such as fields, deserts, and swamps to name a few. The game is similar to Zelda, in the way the controls are laid out and how the world is perceived from a bird’s eye view, but that’s where the similarity ends and the game becomes its own. The sound is pretty good, with different songs for each environment and the sound effects are not just irritating noises put there to let you know that you did bad. I recommend getting this, if not as the original Nintendo version, then as the new Gameboy conversion for a great RPG experience.
Best Cheats: True pause: press B on the second controller to pause the game (ok, its not a really cheat, but it’s not in the manual and it is useful.)
