Title: Arkanoid (2nd Review)
Author:Taito
Rom Player: Nester
Reviewer: Skulhedface

Synopsis: Pong gone crazy? Where did these blocks come from? And why are there little aliens coming from the top of the screen? These questions, while they won't be answered in this game, will still be wiped immediately from your mind as you start to play and enjoy this game.

Fundamentally, you control a paddle that can move only horizontally (note to Command: Put in an up/down switch next time) but that will be all that is necessary, as you are to reflect a ball back into the bricks of a level until you eliminate every last one, signaling you to raise your arm in Arkanoid victory!!.... Until you reach the next level, in which case you better get your hands back on that controller, because the PaddleShip has a built in "Impatience" Button and will automatically fire it for you if you don't rise to the challenge. And challenge there is, for if you don't have the necessary know-how and reflexes, your ass will be handed to you by Level 3.

Graphics are good enough, I suppose. You can tell who you are, what you're shooting (a ball) and what you're shooting at. You can tell that there are bad guys, of course. You may be questioning to yourself why a 3-D triangle is an enemy, but one can make the assumption that it is because it explodes when you hit it with your ball. But you don't need cel-shading, multiple layers or the like when you're controlling a PADDLE, hitting a BALL, towards multi-colored BRICKS. For what it's worth though, the paddle looks nice.
Music? You won't find any here, except when you start a level or the game itself. Nothing. Nada. Put your headphones on while you play this. I recommend Pantera.
Originality is a tough call... Fundamentally, it's PONG, because if you miss your ball, you DIE. But instead of shooting at another paddle, you're shooting BRICKS. The many types of bricks (silver ones that require two hits to disappear, or gold ones that remain forever, to mock your never-ending quest to rid Arkanoid's world of all its bricks) and the multiple powerups (multiballs, slow-motion, and LASERS!) are a VERY nice touch.
All in all, prepare to be frustrated if you lack the necessary motor skills, but rewarded if you're looking for a good gaming experience.
