Title: Mutant League Hockey
Author:Electronic Arts
Rom Player: Gens
Reviewer: Dennis
Synopsis: The folks at EA topped Mutant League Football with yet another sport...Hockey. This game played a lot like most other hockey games with a few twists that made it humorous, such as landmines and acid pits. One of the standard moves your players could do was actually punch the other team’s players. In fact, if you wanted to be a punk about it, you could hang out near the opposing team’s bench and beat up and kill all of their players. And sooner or later fights broke out. With a screen showing one of your players and one of the other team’s guys duking it out on each other. What's hockey without funding? Losers playing golf on skates. Sadly, this would be the last Mutant League game on the Genesis, but at least they went out with a bang.
The graphics were standard 16 bit fare and looked pretty good. At the end of a period, they had a stripper riding a giant slug as the zamboni. The little robots, trolls, and skeletons still looked as cool as they did in MLF.
Gameplay was pretty much like all the other hockey games: shoot, block, fight, and skate easy as hell. Nothing too complicated in that department.
Sound was pretty much generic rock music and slams and the slash sound of skates. After a fight, they played a funeral dirge on a pipe organ, which sounded cool as hell.
All in all, if you liked Mutant League Football or hockey games, you'd enjoy this one. Or buy it for laughs. It was a pretty good game that you'll have fun for a while with. I'd say get yourself a copy of this one.
