Title: Golden Axe
Author:Sega
Rom Player: Gens
Reviewer: Dennis
Synopsis: This is definitely one of the classic Sega Genesis games. If you liked any of the Conan movies, you'd enjoy this one. Your three characters were an Amazon, a muscled Conan look-alike, and a dwarf. You fought your way through countless skeletons, barbarians, giants, and ogres all the way to Death Adder, a mysterious fellow in a suit of armor who is holding the king and queen hostage in his castle.
There were two modes of play in this one: Story mode and VS. mode. In story mode, you chose one of your three heroes and fought to save the King and Queen and score some vengeance against Death Adder for killing a member of your family. In between stages, you beat up little elves to replenish your magic supply. Magic enabled you to do a special attack to kill every enemy on the screen or do significant damage on the bosses. In Vs. mode, you fought your way through each character in the game in a duel.
Gameplay was good. You ran around hacking up enemies with your sword or axe and wasting them with all kinds of neat magic attacks. Nothing too complicated.
Graphics- The graphics were good and true to the arcade version. They were very well detailed and you could even read some of the signs and such.
Music-The music in the Golden Axe series was some of the best in a game and rivals Super Castlevania 4 on the SNES. The music definitely set the adventurous mood for the game.
Overall, this is one of the best of its day and went on to a few sequels, including a fighting game for the Sega Saturn. This would be a great addition to any Sega fan's library.
