Title: Mafat Conspiracy – Golgo 13, The
Author:Vic Tokai Inc.
Rom Player: Nesticle
Reviewer: Dr. Boogie
Synopsis: The second of two games starring The Professional. In this one, The Mafat, a secret revolutionary group, have kidnapped a scientist and used his experimental Satellite Capture System to bring an SDI satellite in the Alps. Soon after word of the satellite’s crash reaches the U.S., both the American and soviet governments receive threatening letters from the Mafat. The Mafat want the Los Angeles, a submarine from the U.S. that is filled with nuclear warheads, as well as the current research the soviets have conducted on the military usage of electromagnetic waves, otherwise they’ll bring down all of America’s and Russia’s satellites. The CIA decides to hire Golgo 13 to take out the Mafat, rescue the scientist, and destroy the Satellite Capture System. The graphics have greatly improved since the last game, with characters no long being very pixilated and block-shaped. The sound has kept this upward trend going as well, with good music and improved sound. The basic platform-style game play is kept, but it is now much easier to avoid being shot and to shoot back as well. Additionally, entering some buildings will bring the player into a first person maze, complete with enemies and health and ammo pickups. I really liked this game. Something I found myself wondering about was that whenever he’s walking, he always has his hands in his pockets, which looks really odd when he walks up to a guy, hands in his pockets, kicks him in the chest, then walks away with his hands in his pockets again.
