Synopsis: This game like all other turtle games is a side-scroller in which you fight your way to the end of the level. Game play is really quite simple considering that it is on the NES.
In the game, the story is that while on vacation the turtles receive a message that April has been kidnapped. Now I know what you all are thinking: "Oh big deal. She is captured every day, what is so special about that?" and so now I will say "Shut up, I am not finished yet." Continuing on, in addition to April being kidnapped, the Shredder has also stolen Manhattan. No, that is not a typo; he took Manhattan. And so it is up to you to take it back and save the day while eating pizza all the while.
The enemies that you shall encounter range every where from foot soldiers to mousers to even KILLER ROBOTS FROM SPACE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now as scary as this may sound, nothing compares to the number of different kinds of foot soldiers. Now I don't mean like you have a basic variety of five, I'm talkin’ like the freakin' 31 flavors of foots, or would that be feet? Anyhoo, I’ve seen 'em with swords, manhole covers, bows and arrows, and even the extremely rare CHAPSTICK DEATH!!!!!!!!
Now although this may seem to be frightening, you have a variety of things to defend yourself with. Ok, 2 attacks but still. At the beginning of the game you can choose your character. Now before you get all excited, you only have four choices and they don't really make a difference in gameplay unless you prefer the color red to purple. You can choose form Leo, Mikey, Don, or Raph. Now do not, I repeat DO NOT be fooled by my previous comments besides the color there is a big difference between them. THE ATTACKS!!!!!!!!
Before I get to the attacks, I should tell you about the controls, push A and jump, push B to attack with your "Ninja" weapon, and press A followed by B to attack mid-air. Now in addition to this, if you follow a very intricate button combo (Editor’s note: you press A and B. At the same time! :o), you can pull off a special attack. Leo spins with blades outward (this is a bad idea someone could get hurt), Don does a somersault in mid-air with his bo out, Raph turns into a human drill (or would that be turtle?) and flies through the air, and Mikey flips. Yes, as pathetic as it sounds he just flips hoping that there is some remote chance that someone other than him will get hurt.
