Title: Air Fortress
Author:Hal Laboratory
Rom Player: Nesticle
Reviewer: Dr. Boogie

Synopsis: Now here is a different kind of shooter. I’ll spare you the whole story, which contains odd names like Farmel, Cromat, and Yubbert. Basically, you, Hal Bailman, are one planet’s last hope to stop eight menacing Air Fortresses from blowing the crap out of them. Each fortress has two different parts, one a sidescroller with a ship, and the other without. The first involves you penetrating the defenses of each fortress on a ship called the “Lightbrasner,” which is so small that you have to ride lying on the top of it. Enemies in this part don’t have spectacular AI, with strategies like move in a line, be obtrusive, rush him, and flee whenever he fires his gun (seriously, this last one is in there). The second part has you infiltrate the base in the planet’s prototype “Armored Suit.” Great name. Anyway, you hover around, looking like an orange astronaut, shooting various kinds of robots, many of which look like they should be shouting “Danger Will Robinson, Danger!” and avoiding high tech traps like turrets, spikes, gravity spikes that pull you toward them. The goal here is to get to the Central Core of the fortress, blow it up, and haul ass to your ship, which is conveniently waiting for you at the only escape tunnel in the massive fortress. The sound effects are ok, but get old after a while. The music was really short and repetitive, though. Still, after blowing up the Central Core, you get a creepy tune, which I did like, while you make your way to the nearest exit. This is a fun game despite the setbacks in the sound department.
