Title: Nekketsu Kouha Kunio-Kun
Author:Technos Japan
Rom Player: MAME
Reviewer: X-Fed: KUNIO!

Synopsis: Ah, yes. The controversial classic that began the infamous Kunio-Kun series and established the side-scrolling fighter genre. It was released in America under the name "Renegade", which boasted a COMPLETELY different plot than the Kunio original. Kunio's game involved 4 different gangs beating the crap out of his friend Hiroshi (poor moron) and Kunio returning the favor. Renegade's plot, however, consisted of some stupid-looking guy fighting through gangs to rescue his girlfriend. Basically, it was a crappy, unoriginal, cliché plot. NKKK's plot wasn't very good either, but it was still more entertaining than Renegade's.

Game Play:
Prepare for a COMPLETELY different experience if you've just played the pathetic NES port. It takes some getting used to. You see, in the game, there were three buttons. If you were facing left and you pressed button 1, you would punch, but if you pressed button 1 while facing right, you would kick. And vice versa with button 3. If you wanted to jump-kick to the left, you would press jump+button 1, and vice versa while facing right. This button set up is a bit awkward and will take a while to get used to.

Graphics:
They were spectacular in 1986, but look somewhat dated today. Still, how can you resist that look on Kunio's face?

Music:
The music is well done. It's memorable and catchy, and you won't be able to get it out of your head for a while.

Originality:
Uh, yeah! This was the FIRST side-scrolling beat-‘em-up...yet it was still overshadowed by later games....

Overall Rating:
It's a solid beat-‘em-up worth checking out. It's the beginning of the Kunio series! You'd have to be crazy not to like this.

Best Cheats: None! This is an arcade game!
