Title: Kabuki – Quantum Fighter
Author:Hal America Inc.
Rom Player: RockNES X
Reviewer: Dr. Boogie

Synopsis: I’d like to apologize in advance for any pun-related damage that reading this article may cause. That said, this game is a real hair-raising adventure. Someone, or something, has taken control of the Main Defense Computer and is preventing anyone from using it. Using the new “Image Transfer System,” they send you, Colonel Scott O’Connor into the computer to neutralize the threat before it starts playing around with nukes. Here’s where things go crazy: Once you enter the computer, you manifest yourself as a kabuki actor because your great great grandfather was a very famous one. Your main weapon is huge red hair that you whip in front of you to kill things. Sure, being smacked by hair is irritating, but deadly? You also come with “memory chips” that you throw like little ninja stars. When you beat a stage, you get another weapon that uses these chips, which, in the order you find them, are the fusion gun, quantum bombs, dynamite, and a remote control bolo. What they have to do with computers, I don’t know. Even more bizarre is that the background for the inside of the computer consists of nasty organs and unusual textures that make you wonder what the hell kind of computer this is. To add to the ambience, the enemies, some of which are vaguely computer-related, range from “robo roaches,” to dart-throwing lizardmen ninja things, to stationary heads that shoot fireballs out of their temples. The sound effects are good, and the music conveys the atmosphere of each stage fairly well. Overall, this is a good action game that will make your hair stand on end.

Best Cheats: Life/chip switch – During a boss battle, you can pause the game and press up to trade left over chips for life, and down to do the opposite.
