Title: Super Castlevania IV (2nd Review)
Author:Konami
Rom Player: ZSNES
Reviewer: Shane Skekel

Synopsis: When it comes to the 16-bit Castlevania games, this one is my overall favorite. If you have not played this game, then buy it because a ROM is not enough.
Let’s get on with the story: After alleviating a curse and rescuing his bride, Simon Belmont decides to give Dracula possibly the worst whip-induced beating that the demon-incarnate bastard will never forget. Now, with my rendition of the prologue out of the way the review will carry on. The gameplay is still the same, but there are improvements to the jumping and let us not forget the fact that Simon can hold his whip out or attack in eight directions. In terms of enemies, they have some new ones as well of the usual. In case you’re a CV newbie, I'll tell you who they are:

Bone-throwing Skeleton (also available in red and gold): Speaks for itself, not much of a threat.
Skeleton knight: A skeleton that is an expert in sword combat.
Drunk Skeleton: He hangs out of windows, probably
an alcoholic.
Various zombies: They constantly come up from the ground, but some are just too damn lazy to do so.
Gremlins: They jump around in various arcs, too bad
there's no flea men.
Harpy(found only in stage 5): Your average gremlin-
dropping bird-whore.
Zombie mutt(found only in stage 6): Like those blood-soaked red skeletons, they are always pulling themselves back together.
Wall-widow: A ghost that hangs out in walls.
Mr. Hed: A severed horse head that attacks people.
Everyday Ghost: They prefer to chase our hero down.
Various mechanoid armor: They are either armed with a spear, throwing axe, or hide out in towers.
There are some more enemies, but I don't have the time to list them right now.

In terms of graphics, Super CV4 makes great use of mode 7, much like Contra III. They range from the rotation part in 4-2 and the rolling barrel part following that section. The music is very good for the Super NES, and feature a few remixes. The sound effects are also great, but neither Simon, Death, nor Dracula have any real voice acting. Too bad the 8-directional whip was ditched when CV Dracula X: Circle of Blood (Editor’s note: Also known as Rondo of Blood) came out for the Turbografix CD, not to mention that it wasn't released here.

This is one adventure in the Simon Belmont legacy that will always kick ass, even if you get your ass kicked by Slogra (Berigan) or the other bosses.
