Title: Earthbound (2nd Review)
Author:Nintendo
Rom Player: NESticle
Reviewer: Cory B
Synopsis: The NES game Earthbound, now an infamous game to ROM pirates and Earthbound fans alike. This game was not actually released; the only place you'll find it is in ROM form or by buying a (the?) prototype from some fruitcake on Ebay for a couple thousand dollars.
I don't know about paying 2 G's for it, but this game is a great one in any case. Imagine a modern-day RPG where your characters equip weapons like Baseball Bats and Frying Pans, and fight off-the-wall enemies; everything from lamps to runaway semi-trucks to gigantic robots with Star Wars-esque names. That's Earthbound in a nutshell.
The graphics for both this and the SNES Earthbound aren't overly spectacular, but manage to look nice nonetheless and add a sort of cartoony atmosphere to the game. However, one of my favorite aspects of the series has always been the music. It's always very fitting to the current situation; upbeat rock-and-roll themes play while fighting runaway trucks, spooky music accompanies the graveyard/haunted house areas, etc. All of it is very well done.
Best Cheats: If you revisit the Merrysville school late in the game, a scientist guy there will sell you some cool items, including Super Bombs, which destroy all the enemies you are currently facing. These will be handy on Mt. Itoi near the end of the game.
